I decided I needed to start sharing all these little things I've kept secret on my computer and never shown anyone because I was too afraid. They were all written for a reason; and if just one person is touched in some way by anything I've written here, my purpose has been fulfilled, and may God get the glory.
Always There to Hold Me
The pain eating him up inside drives him from the cold, empty bed.
He goes into the little pink bedroom, just to make sure she's still there,
Make sure she hasn't left too.
She sits up, and the tears on her cheeks tell him he's not the only one
Who can't sleep tonight. And his heart wrenches as she asks a simple question.
"Daddy, why hasn't Mommy come home tonight?"
"I don't have all the answers," he whisperers past his tight throat.
"But I know someone who does."
And she says, "Daddy won't you hold me?"
He wraps her tightly in his arms, not willing to let her go yet.
Chorus:
Daddy won't you hold me?
Cause I can't seem to sleep tonight,
With all these haunting memories and aching hurts
Tearing me up inside.
Daddy won't you hold me,
Tell me that you love me,
And that you're never letting go.
He walks inside the front door, phone call still ringing in his mind.
He kneels before the shaking form lying on the couch,
Glad she wasn't taken too.
She looks up at him, tears streaming from her swollen eyes,
And he knows he's not the only one who's asking why.
And his heart wrenches at her simple question:
"Why'd He have to take her before I even got to meet her?"
"I don't have all the answers," he whispers past his tight throat.
"But I know someone who does."
And she says, "Daddy won't you hold me?"
And he wraps her in his arms, not willing to let her go yet.
Chorus:
Daddy won't you hold me?
Cause I can't seem to sleep tonight,
With all these haunting memories, aching hurts,
Tearing me up inside.
Daddy won't you hold me tonight,
Tell me that you love me,
And that you're never letting me go.
I can't say I know what His will is,
For His thoughts are higher than mine,
But if there's one thing in this broken world I can be sure of,
It's that He has always been there to hold me.
Always there to hold me...Always there to hold me...
She kneels on the ground, tears streaming down her cheeks,
She touches the cold tombstone. Her heart had always told her
That one day he'd be gone too.
He'd fought long and hard, but the battle was finally over.
And as she raised her face up to the sky, she whispers,
"I don't have all the answers.
But I know you do."
And she takes the hand of her redemption child,
And they walk away, she's ready to let go.
And she prays...
Daddy won't you hold me?
Cause I can't seem to sleep tonight,
With all these haunting memories, aching hurts,
Tearing me up inside.
Daddy please hold me tonight,
Because I know you love me,
And you're not going to let go.
Because You've always been there to hold me.
You'll always be there to hold me.
I like it a lot. It is sad...but touching.
